September 2023 Dr. Varun Sundaram has helped lead Urology Austin to be designated a Barrigel^® Center of Excellence by Palette Life Sciences. The Barrigel Center of Excellence program recognizes physicians who have achieved an exceptional level of clinical expertise in the Barrigel procedure and display an overall dedication to patient education and improving outcomes. Dr. Sundaram and the UA team are committed to minimizing the side effects of prostate radiation therapy and delivering the best possible care for their patients.

Dr. Varun Sundaram moved to Central Texas after practicing as a board certified Urologist in Gresham, Oregon. He completed his undergraduate studies and Medical Degree at Washington University in St. Louis. He subsequently completed his General Surgery Internship and Urology Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Sundaram practices in all areas of male and female Urology, with special areas of interest in BPH surgery, vasectomies, prostate cancer, low testosterone, erectile dysfunction and kidney stone treatment. He has been trained in Rezum Water Vapor Therapy, Greenlight Laser Therapy and Aquablation for BPH, and SpaceOAR for men preparing to undergo radiation for prostate cancer. He also has specialization in robotic surgeries on the prostate and kidneys.

Dr. Varun Sundaram discusses the use of Clarix® 1K is a cryopreserved, ultra-thick human amniotic membrane allograft derived from umbilical cord used as an adjunct for surgical applications. This new process helps maintain continence, erectile function, and cancer recovery after prostate surgery.

Dr. Sundaram, Thank you kindly for your expertise and our entire family appreciated the care you’ve provided to my loving husband. We thank GOD for giving Dr. Sundaram to us during the most fearful time of our life. We count our blessings.... On Apr 2021, he was diagnosed w/ kidney cancer. Our initial appt with Dr. Sundaram was very positive. He is a human being who understood our fear to this cancer. He was knowledgeable of his medical field and educated us [about] what to expect. He did not waste time, within a couple of weeks, my husband had his surgery. Dr. Sundaram was very attentive to my husband for the next 24 hrs after the surgery and provided his phone to call him while on recovery. He gave us the BEST news that the procedure was curative to the cancer and chemotherapy is not required. On April 2022, my husband had his blood works and CT scans and cancer free !
