bph patient navigation

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH or enlarged prostate) is a medical condition in which men experience bothersome urinary symptoms due to an overgrowth of prostate tissue, as the prostate enlarges over time. This enlargement can compress the urethra disrupting normal urination. Typically, BPH affects men as they age, however, not all men will develop this condition. Nonetheless, millions of American men struggle with the aggravation of BPH symptoms. Fortunately, there are several effective treatment options available to help patients significantly improve this condition. In addition to medical solutions, Urology Austin has launched a BPH patient navigation program that is offered to qualifying Urology Austin patients who have been diagnosed and treated for an enlarged prostate.

What is BPH patient navigation?

BPH management follows a specific algorithm of evaluation and care. Patient navigation adds a higher level of care by offering a personalized, one-on-one interaction between the patient navigator and individual patients. When a qualifying patient has been identified, an analysis will be made of their past care plan, treatments they were offered, how far they have proceeded along the BPH care pathway, the effectiveness of treatments and the consistency of treatment.

The role of the patient navigator is to help the BPH patient understand their diagnosis, initiate and coordinate communication between the patient and their provider, guide the patient through the appropriate care pathway, and help facilitate scheduling appointments. The navigator’s objective is to guide patients through their personalized journey toward better urinary health and quality of life.

If you or someone you know are struggling with the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, contact Urology Austin to schedule an appointment with one of our specialists.
