Cindy Altonburg, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

Cindy Altonburg, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner at Urology Austin.

Cindy Altonburg received her Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Baylor University, where she graduated at the top of her class, in April 2023. She was introduced to UA as part of her clinical rotation in spring 2022, which sparked her interest in urology, and she joined the UA team in July 2023.

After working as a critical care nurse at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas Hospital, Dr. Altonburg was looking for an opportunity to proactively provide patients with the comprehensive, focused care they need. That set her on a three-year journey to receive her advanced degree, with her doctoral specialization focused on raising awareness of elevated blood pressure using visual educational tools.

As an advanced practice provider with Urology Austin, Dr. Altonburg is supervised by Dr. Rachel Sosland in our Radam Lane office. As a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Cindy is licensed to evaluate patients, interpret imaging, diagnose conditions, prescribe medications as well as manage patient care and treatment plans.

One of the best parts of her job is enhancing her patients’ quality of life through education about issues such as kidney stone prevention, male and female urinary bladder issues and urinary incontinence. Her patient-centered approach comes from seeing firsthand as a critical-care nurse these types of issues manifest themselves in more serious conditions if left untreated.
As a registered nurse, Cindy has experience in many areas including medical-surgical, previously staffing a COVID-19 intensive care unit at Dell Seton Medical Center and floating between psychiatric, medical-surgical, oncology and telemetry at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Washington.

In her spare time, Cindy loves to spend time with her family, which includes her husband of 19 years. She volunteers as a proud band mom to her 16-year-old daughter and dotes on her pug/dachshund mix named Pickle. Cindy is an active runner having completed marathons and half marathons and loves fiction of all genres. Her future plans include becoming board certified in Urology.
