Urology Austin is pleased to launch a Women’s Wellness Program that focuses on vaginal rejuvenation. This is an in-office treatment option for women experiencing bothersome and uncomfortable vaginal changes. These changes may be due to childbirth (postpartum), peri- and post-menopause and various medical conditions. Vaginal rejuvenation can treat conditions such as laxity (looseness of the vagina), stress urinary incontinence, itching, burning, lack of lubrication, vaginal atrophy, and dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse). Traditionally, women have relied on hormone therapy to address many of these conditions. Vaginal rejuvenation is a proven alternative that has been successfully used to treat women for many years.
How does vaginal rejuvenation work?
At Urology Austin, we provide this service using one of two devices: the TempSure Vitalia and the MonaLisa Touch. Each device works by stimulating blood flow and inducing new collagen and elastin formation in vaginal tissues. Increasing collagen and elastin helps promote hydration and the tightening of vaginal tissue. While the Vitalia and MonaLisa systems are similar, each offers a tailored solution to women based on their individual needs. Anesthesia is not required for either procedure.
Women’s Wellness Treatment Options
Vitalia is an FDA-approved, non-surgical option that uses radiofrequency waves to treat women with mild vaginal conditions and symptoms. It is not recommended for women who experience severe issues. This treatment option is ideal for women experiencing perimenopause symptoms regardless of their age.
During treatment, these waves produce heat that stimulates collagen and elastin production. The device uses both a wand and grounding pad that delivers waves from outside of the body. While in operation, this process does not damage, burn or breakdown the skin. Therefore, there is no downtime following treatment. After the procedure, it is recommended that women abstain from sexual intercourse for at least 24 hours.
Because it takes time to induce collagen and elastin production, this option should be repeated every three to four weeks for a minimum of three treatments or as recommended by your Urologist. Maintenance treatments are recommended every six to twelve months to maintain results. Women utilizing the Vitalia system may still need to supplement their treatments with hormone therapy.
MonaLisa Touch is an FDA-approved system that uses a CO2 laser to treat vaginal conditions. During treatment, the laser ablates the skin sending gentle heat directly into tissue. This promotes collagen and elastin production while the body heals itself.
The Mona Lisa Touch is recommended for women who have more advanced and/or severe vaginal symptoms related to:
- Lubrication issues
- Vaginal atrophy
- Urinary incontinence
- Extreme dryness in post-menopausal women
- Women experiencing surgically induced menopause
- Post radiation and treatments for ovarian and breast cancer
Women may experience some discomfort and have minimal downtime following each session. Because the skin is ablated (broken) during the procedure, an ointment such as Aquaphor should be applied to the area treated to avoid infection. Also, women should abstain from intercourse for five to seven days.
This procedure should be repeated every six weeks for a minimum of three treatments or as recommended by your Urologist. Maintenance treatments are also recommended on an annual basis. Women who are currently on hormones may be able to discontinue therapy by utilizing the MonaLisa Touch.
Women’s Wellness Manager
The Women’s Wellness program at Urology Austin is managed by Tiffany Walther. Tiffany joined Urology Austin in 2019 as a Medical Assistant at our Round Rock #1 location and was quickly promoted to an Assistant Manager. In 2021, Tiffany was again promoted to Manager of our Women’s Wellness Program.
As Manager of our Wellness Program, Tiffany will be treating women with the MonaLisa Touch and Tempsure Vitalia devices. Tiffany’s background, in-depth knowledge and past experience with these devices, will allow women to ask questions, better understand each procedure and be confident in making their healthcare decisions. Prior to booking treatment sessions, patients will schedule a consultation with Tiffany to further assess their specific needs based on provider recommendations. When working with our female patients, Tiffany’s commitment is to help women achieve better overall health from the inside out.
If you’re an established patient with Urology Austin, we invite you to call 512-410-3828 to schedule a consultation with Tiffany and learn more about the benefits of the MonaLisa Touch and Vitalia. Tiffany can also be reached at email@example.com
New patients will first need to schedule an appointment with a Urologist at their preferred location for an initial health assessment.
“As a 63 year old grandmother and empty nester, I decided to have the Mona Lisa laser procedure as a vital part of caring for myself. Intimacy with my husband of 37 years had become painful post menopause. Trying over-the-counter lubricants was messy. I also was experiencing frequent urinary tract infections. I was ready for a positive change. Tiffany was a caring listener and knowledgeable care provider. She walked me through each step of the Mona Lisa procedure so I knew exactly what to expect. She was gentle, kind, and shared her extensive experience with the procedure with me. I had 3 sessions with the Mona Lisa. Wow! The decision to have the Mona Lisa has given me a new lease on life! I am enjoying being ‘young at heart‘ again with rejuvenated body and spirit.”
“The treatments enhanced my quality of life – sounds dramatic because it was! Decreased urge incontinence and improved muscle control lead to less frequent urination… which translated to not having to go to the restroom multiple times a day. Big improvement.” This patient did the Mona Lisa.
