The Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy for enlarged prostate (BPH) was approved for use by the FDA in 2015.

This minimally invasive procedure uses the thermal energy in water vapor to administer measured doses of steam to targeted areas within the prostate to reduce obstructive tissue. Rezūm therapy has been known to help eliminate symptoms such as urinary frequency, repeated trips to the restroom at night (Nocturia), urinary urgency, an irregular flow, a weak stream of urine, and straining to urinate.

Rezūm therapy is an in-office procedure that uses a transurethral scope inserted into the penis, through the prostate, to the base of the bladder. The scope is slowly manipulated along the urethra while doses of steam are released into areas of the prostate with tissue obstruction. The procedure takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and a pain blocking gel is administered prior to the procedure to help keep the patient comfortable. A catheter will be placed after the procedure for several days while swelling in the prostate is reduced.

For men who have tried medication, but are seeking a more permanent solution to their enlarged prostate, the Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy can offer several benefits:

  • Potential replacement of enlarged prostate medications
  • Safe, in-office procedure that does not require anesthesia
  • Preserves existing sexual function
  • Improves urinary function
